Book Description:

Behind the Faerying Mysts, hidden from Mortal eyes, is a land where Gods, creatures of myth and legend dwell. And in the Mortal Realm, their Princess lives.

Quinn Sinclair is clueless to who she is. She thinks she's an ordinary young woman—well, mostly ordinary—living an ordinary life with her less than loving mother in Conifer, Colorado. On the night of her birthday, Quinn finds herself betrayed by a man who sends her life spinning out-of-control.

As she struggles to pick up the pieces, a vision of a man with haunting tourmaline-blue eyes begs her for help, and she finds herself transported into a Magykal battle forever changing her life.

Arik Morgaine—Demigod bad boy and outcast of the Magykal Realm—tried to avoid contact with Princess Quinn Sinclair for eighteen years, not wanting to make good on an old threat. But the fates have other plans. Arik can no longer deny his growing desire for Quinn, or the need to protect her from those wanting to control her burgeoning powers. Can the two of them come together and save the Magykal Realm from being destroyed by the Darkest of Magyks, or will powers beyond their control destroy them and their world forever?

 About the Author:

Dawna Raver is an author of paranormal romance and urban fantasy. Colour Wielders, book one of the Heirs of the Magykal Realm series, is her debut novel. When she's not spending time in her fantasy world, Dawna loves football, reading, and pretending she's a top chef in the kitchen. Oh, and fawning over her dogs and husband, sometimes in that order.

Colour Wielders Quotes

"You have the Sight. I guess some might call that magic.

"Forever is a long time. But I could do it with you."

There are so many things I would explain if I could. I would tell you we are the Colour Wielders; a people of Magyk.

A war is coming. One bigger and more frightening than the likes we have seen before. Do you not feel it? Choose with a clear head and an even clearer heart.

… emotionally, she felt like she was on a Tilt-A-Whirl. Each time she adjusted to spinning in one direction, the trajectory switched, sending her whirling in a different one. Somehow, her life turned into the Magical Mystery Tour. Funny, she didn't recall buying a ticket.

Interview with Arik Morgaine

Dawna Raver: Hi Arik. Long time no see.
(I say this trying to keep my tongue from lolling out of my mouth. The man is hot in his tight, black T-shirt and jeans. The energy radiating from him comes to me in colorful hues. It makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end.)
Arik Morgaine: I've been busy. Very busy.
Dawna Raver: I'm sure. I appreciate you taking time to speak with me.
 Arik Morgaine: Hmph.
(He rolls his tourmaline-blue eyes, exasperated, but I can't help but swoon.)
Dawna Raver: So, you said you've been busy. What's going on?
Arik Morgaine: Things you couldn't possible grasp, being Mortal and all.
(He says the word Mortal with a sneer as he leans forward, staring me down. His Irish/Swedish accent sends shivers across my skin.)
Dawna Raver: Hmm. Well, Mortal or not, how about you enlighten me anyway.
(I stare right back at him. Gorgeous Demigod or not, I refuse to be intimated.)
Arik Morgaine: (He sighs.) Things are going down. Unexpected things. Things that shouldn't be happening.
Dawna Raver: Oh you mean like the Changeling coming back?
(Arik stiffens at the mention of the Changeling.)
Arik Morgaine: How do you know about that?
Dawna Raver: (I smile.) I have my ways.
(Considering me, he rubs his chin with hand, and one, long finger brushes over the sexy cleft in his chin.)
Arik Morgaine: The Establishment, I expect.
Dawna Raver: No, not the Establishment. But I did speak with King Finn Bheara the other day. He sends his love.
Arik Morgaine: Ha! I'm sure. There's no love lost there. I refuse to bow to him and his two cronies until they come clean. Admit to what's going on under their noses.
Dawna Raver: One of those cronies is your father, Týr, the infamous War God?
Arik Morgaine: Yeah. And your point?
Dawna Raver: No point. So, have you heard from your mother, Mor—?
(He stands abruptly, and scowls down at me.)
Arik Morgaine: Do. Not. Say. Her. Name.
(I hold up my hands and look around nervously. Arik sits back down.)
Dawna Raver: Oh, okay. Um, are you afraid she might hear us?
Arik Morgaine: No. I'd just like to go a day without being reminded of who my mother is. Thankfully, I favor my father.
Dawna Raver: Well, except for your widow's peak.
(He runs his hand through his hair, and grimaces.)
Arik Morgaine: Yeah. Are we about done here? I have places to be, things to do.
Dawna Raver: Sure. Just one more question. Have you heard anything about the Princess? Checked up on her? I hear your old friend Devin MacGregor is staying at her house.
Arik Morgaine: She is less than nothing to me, and he more so. This interview is over.
(He growls and waves his hand, disappearing from sight. I suck in a surprised breath.)
Dawna Raver: Was it something I said? Darn. I wanted to ask him about his Colours. Well, maybe next time.
I pull out a bottle of tequila and pour myself a shot. I'd hoped to do one with Arik, but he was kind of grumpy. Seriously, he has a lot on his plate to deal with. His mother alone is scary enough. No wonder he's grumpy. Oh, and don't ask me to name her. Because she might be listening, and I don't want to incur her wrath.
I take the shot then go in search of Quinn Sinclair. Hopefully, she's in a much better mood.

Interview with Quinn Sinclair

I walk in and sit down, taking in the women before me. She's very pretty, but I have a sense future changes will make her a real beauty. She shifts uncomfortably in her chair as if she rather be doing anything than talking to me. She smiles when she sees me, and I can't help but be taken in by her bright, purple-tanzanite eyes. They're stunning.)
Dawna Raver: Hi Quinn. Thanks for joining me. I understand you've had a rough go of it recently.
Quinn Sinclair: Yeah. (She winces and nervously plays with her long, auburn hair.) Kind of.
Dawna Raver: Sorry about your birthday.
(She laughs, but it doesn't reach her eyes. For a split second, they turn jade in color. I take a quick breath and try to hide my reaction. I wonder if she knows her eyes can change color? I quickly change subjects.)
Dawna Raver: I understand when you got home your mother was missing? Any word on her whereabouts?
Quinn Sinclair:  No. (She sighs, resigned.) Mother will show up whens she ready—or she won't. Whatever.
Dawna Raver: So, I understand your brother Iain is home from the Army. You must be trilled.
Quinn Sinclair:  (She perks up at this.) Yes, I'm very excited. It's nice to have Iain home.
Dawna Raver: And he's brought a friend, Devin MacGregor?
Quinn Sinclair: (She blushes and toys with the gold signet ring on her finger.) Yeah. He's … nice.
(Her smile dips into a quick frown then back to a smile.) Yeah, nice.
(Having met Devin MacGregor, I understand her reticence. He's a man of power. Extreme power.)
Dawna Raver:  You like him, don't you?
Quinn Sinclair: Sure. What's not to like.
Dawna Raver: But?
Quinn Sinclair: But nothing. You know, things are kind of crazy right now. Weird things keep happening. (She leans in and whispers.) I think I might have some kind of magic. I see these really weird colors around Devin. I think he has magic too.
Dawna Raver: Like Thaene?
Quinn Sinclair: (She vehemently shakes her head.) No. Not like Thaene. How do you know about Thaene and magic anyway? (Her eyes narrow.)
Dawna Raver: I'm afraid most people know about Thaene or they soon will.
(Her eyes flash jade again. I try not to react so she doesn't. I happen to know about her Magyk and have no desire to experience it first hand.)
Quinn Sinclair: Great! I really wanted the whole world to know about my disastrous birthday. This is effing perfect.
Quinn stands up and straightens the skirt of her black dress.
Dawna Raver: Are you leaving? So soon? (I hold up the bottle of tequila.) I have tequila.
She waves me off and strolls out of the room, she her shoulders a little slumped. I hear her mumble something under her breath, but I can't quite make it out. Something about me and a cow?

Sighing, I pour myself another shot and down it. I seem to have a knack for pissing people off. Oh well. I can always get my revenge in book two.

Thank you so much Dawna for being on my blog and I can't wait to read Colour Wielders!

Guardian, A Fated Pairing Coming April 13th

Coming April 13th! The Cover was designed by Rue Volley and it was edited by Victoria Shockley.

Vampires are on the brink of disappearing. Their numbers in the low thousands hidden all over the world. After years of searching for the cure to turn humans into their kind, one vampire believes he has done it! But in creating the cure he has started a bloody and desperate hunt. A race among animals, vampires and wolves, to find the cure and either destroy it, or use it.

Alisa Chamberlin as three jobs: Keep her sister safe, find Mr. Holiday, and stay alive. With a strong vampire hot on their heels Alisa's life can't get more complicated until a werewolf named Peter Woodrow shows up in her neck of the neighborhood, but this isn't a chance meeting. Peter has been hired as a Guardian to protect her, the only problem is, she's a vampire. She's a creature his kind hopes to one day make extinct and to top it all off he's certain she's his mate, but that can't be. A vampire's blood is sickening to a werewolf and goes against everything their kind believes in.

As Peter tries to keep an unwilling Alisa safe he begins to unravel the web of secrets surrounding her and why she is being hunted, but is what she protects worth the life of the one man she is destined to be with? And can he get over the fact that she is everything he hates long enough to realize she's just what he needs? Or will the sacrifice be too great in the end for either of them?

It's an adult Paranormal Romance (rated R) that I had worked on as my NaNoWriMo last year and finally I have gotten it as perfect as I think I can get it. I can't wait for your reviews and comments and I will probably continue to lose sleep for the first couple of days after it's release, but I hope you all will enjoy it as much as I have writing it!

Atticus for the Undead and Haunted Moon Reviews

Atticus for the Undead (a legal fiction) by John Abramowitz

Don’t be thrown off by the word ‘legal’. Yes, it is a legal thriller, but no, it’s not hard to follow. The writer gives you all the information and more that you will need for following the book. And you really could easily push this into a few other categories. It’s full of humor, magic, and drama.

Atticus for the Dead starts off in the real world after, what is called, ‘the unveiling’ has happened and all manner of beings (vampires, zombies, and such) have stepped out into the light. Mankind is now at the point where they are in in conflict about political actions and rights towards the sudden appearance of the supernatural beings. Neighbors, family members, and friends can be one of them, one of the supernatural. Movements have started up, both against and for, supernatural beings. And when a supernatural (Arcane) is against the wall in matters of the legal kind, who will rise up to help?

And that’s where out man comes in! Hunter Gamble is just the man for the job! He’s a lawyer come to save the day and he’s bringing his A -game.

This book is a great balance of snappy dialogue mixed into a legal mesh of fun with great characters. I would have finished the book a lot faster if work hadn’t forced me away! Though I can see where some people would be put off by a book like this, I would say at least give the first three chapters a try. I give this book a four out of five.

Hunted Moon by K.B. Miller

Having not read the series before, I can say that this story alone is a nice start, a nice background or foundation for the series in my mind. It has a well put together beginning, middle, and end, and enough action to keep you interested. I know I was! I finished it in one read and was completely satisfied. It really was something worth picking up and enjoying.

This story leads with one of two sisters having come of age to join in her mother’s coven, but she is shaken by an encounter of the vampiric kind. With her sister mad at her, the weight of joining the coven, and the thought that she is going to have to KILL creatures (vampires), she isn’t sure she can handle it all. But when her sister’s life is in danger, Leeny must find the strength with the Goddess to be the Witch she is destined to become. I give it a five out of five.

Interview with author Diana Nixon

This is my interview of author Diana Nixon on DAY 2 of her Blog Tour Event lasting from the 1st of February to the 25th. It is in honor of the release of From Scratch, book 2.5 of the Love Lines series. Follow this page to the bottom for all of Diana Nixon's links and my to see my Review of From Scratch.

Day 2. An Interview

Tell us a little about yourself.

I was born in Minsk, Belarus, where I still live together with my husband, my little daughter and our cat:) I write fantasy novels for young adults. Before becoming a writer I was working as a lawyer, signing contracts and reading Civil Codes. I can’t but admit that signing books is much more pleasurable:) At the moment I’m working on my Love Lines series, three books of which have already been published. Apart from writing I like reading! And I’m a huge fan of fantasy:) I read all the most popular fantasy series from Harry Potter to Twilight. Too bad I don’t have much time to read now:) But every time I get a chance to read, I try to spend it with a good book in my hands. As every other woman I like shopping. I’m very communicative person and even when I don’t have an opportunity to see my friends, I try not to forget about them:) Christmas is my favorite time of the year, though I hate winter and adore summer. I like chocolate sweets and ice-cream with fruits; strawberry and tea with milk:) I hate mean people and liars and I admire honesty and bravery. What else?.. I play the piano and though I forgot most of the songs I used to know before, I still enjoy playing. I speak several foreign languages, including Polish, Spanish and English. The last one is about to become my second native language:) I used to write my books in Russian, but later I realized that it was much easier and faster to write them in English. Well, I guess that’s all I can tell about myself in a few sentences:)

When in life did you decide to start writing?

Just a few months ago I remembered about my first book, written about ten years ago. It was my childish variant of some of those Brazilian soap operas everyone liked watching so much:) So I guess my writing talent had been sleeping peacefully somewhere at the background of my mind for years, until one day I wrote my Love Lines novel, that was my first published book.

What influenced you specifically in writing the Love Lines Series?
The love I feel myself, I guess:) When someone asks me if there are events in my book based on my own life, I always say that my books are works of fiction and the only real thing about them is love.

Between all your wonderful characters was there any that started out completely different from the way they ended up in your final draft?
Yes. Alexis Wilde. She wasn’t supposed to be that bad:) But when it came to creating villains I thought it would be unexpected if I tuned her into one of the enemies. I wasn’t planning to involve Evan in all the events of the story but as it turned out I just couldn’t stop myself from writing more about him. Some of the characters were missing in the first draft, but later I included them into the story.

And how many drafts did you go through before fully finishing you’re first book?
Almost everything was written in the first draft that was ready in 30 days! I can’t believe I managed to write LL in such a short period of time, lol. Just some small details were added and changed while editing the text.

Is there any character that reflects anyone, or is modeled a little after, people you know?
No. I always say that it’s better not to piss me off or I will turn you into another villain of my book:) Just kidding, of course:) I don’t copy people I know:) Yes, I do take some features of their character or appearance. But none of my characters has a prototype in real life.

Out of all of the voices (Eileen, Evan, Christian, etc.…) in your head is there a favorite?
I like all of them! Eileen is reasonable and responsible. Amanda makes me smile. Evan is very funny and smart. His comments are my favorite:) And Christian’s always charming and gallant. The sound of his voice will melt every girl’s heart:)

When you are writing do you need silence or is there something in the background?
I like writing in silence:) I listen to music before getting to work on my books. Especially when I need some inspiration to create specific scenes.

What is the first thing you do after you have finished working on a project? How do you celebrate?
I take a deep breath, smile, clap my hands and make a cup of tea to drink it watching a movie or reading a book:) I can’t stay long without writing, so usually after finishing one book I get straight to the next one. Two weeks of Christmas holidays were pure torture for me, lol

Do you ever get overwhelmed or frustrated? How do you handle it and what advice would you give others who are just starting out in this line of work?
I call it “a bad day”:) If I can’t write or it doesn’t go the way it was supposed to, I leave it for tomorrow:) Because I know that when I’m in a bad mood, frustrated and don’t have inspiration, the words will never be good enough to be included into the manuscript.

You have written two books in the Love Lines Series, how many more do you have plotted out for the future? And what details can you give us now about you’re latest work?
There will be three more books in the Love Lines series. My latest book it’s actually a short story named From Scratch. It’s also a part of the LL series. It shows the beginning of Evan’s and Tara’s romance. And I can give you a short teaser :

I knew that arguing with Eileen was a lost cause. She never gave up, and I always wondered how Christian managed to control her, because sometimes it seemed that he was the only person able to stop whatever craziness crossed her pretty head. Of course, I shouldn’t have been afraid of any physical punishment but I knew that my refusal would upset Eileen. And I didn’t like it when she was upset. Besides, the idea of a centenary silent war that I was sure was coming along with my 'no' wasn’t thrilling. She was my friend after all, and losing her because of some nonsense wasn’t an option.

Favorites:
What is your favorite gift at Dever at the moment? Or one you’d wish to possess?
It’s a hard question. I would say it’s magic, but other gifts are valuable too. So I think I would choose a little of each of them:)

Who is your favorite male character?
Evan!!!:)

Who is your favorite female character?
I like both Eileen and Amanda:)

What has been your favorite scene to write thus far in each of Love Lines books?
Love Lines: the scene of Eileen’s and Christian’s first kiss and the performances of the Festival of Arts.
Songs of the wind: every scene was great. I think:) So it’s hard to choose only one. But I enjoyed working on Evan’s memories.
From Scratch: the first meeting of Evan and Tara:)

My Review of From Scratch:

I LOVED this work! Diana Nixon has written another wonderful tale, full of love and loss staring her character Evan. Finally we get to see a little into what happened between him and the love of his life. the book is written with Evan reading and reliving his favorite and more painful memories from his journal/diary entries, which he has decided is time to get rid of and move on.

After reading this wonderful addition to the Love Lines Series (a side/background story) I am looking forward to reading the next book to see how Evan's future turns out. I recommend this for everyone. Even people who have never read another Love Lines book.

I have a feeling that until her next book comes out Evan will be keeping me company many more times. :)
