The Pulse Trilogy: Little secrets You may not have known

The Pulse Trilogy

As the writer there are things I love to picture about my characters that may not end up on the page. I can't tall you every piece of food a character likes, all of their life's decisions that led them here, or many other things in which aren't that relevant to the story, but I do try and share a lot. So, here is some information you may not know. Along with little spoilers about what might be to come or said in works not yet revealed. :) 

Unknown Piece of Information #1:

Elizabeth’s full name is Elizabeth Ann Parks. Her middle name is a shortened version of her mother’s name.

Unknown Piece of Information #2:

Genealogy:

Elizabeth has two Aunts, six Cousins, and one Second Cousin on the way. All of her family lives within Louisiana except her cousin Ami, who is married to Timothy Sanders. They live in the Fort Worth area in Texas.

Unknown Piece of Information #3:

Bethany’s last name:

She always introduces herself by Bethany Jean. This reason is because Bethany’s family is connected to the Liddell family fortune. Her mother was adopted into the family, but has best tried not to pull her kids into the lime light. Hence why Bethany’s always wearing glamorous outfits and dressing up when she’s not at work. Its apart of her parent’s upbringing. It’s also the reason why her parents aren’t there. They are always away on business or vacationing at one of their many houses. Bethany chose to stay in Alexandria where she found a second family in Elizabeth and her father.

Liddel Family fortune came during the early 1920s, first starting out by investing in small businesses and supporting many flourishing companies. Throughout the years became top twenty wealthiest profiting off of everything from Magazines to furniture stores. Now, they are leading in home decor Magazines with the latest in modern and southern decor. And still today they rank among the top twenty with future goals to integrating Asian style into their company with a new magazine release in hopes a bringing in a fresh crowd and sky rocking them into the Top Ten.

Unknown Piece of Information #4:

Elizabeth’s family is a mix of rebels, Saints, and a couple of Tar heel fans--Elizabeth and her dad being the Tar heel Fans.

Unknown Piece of Information #5:

Elizabeth drives a blue BMW, 2008 Honda Accord when we first meet her in A Steady Pulse, but after getting into a car accident she gets a white 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid.

Unknown Piece of Information #6:

Genealogy:

Martha, Elizabeth’s Aunt, is given the middle name Angeline. This is in honor is Samuel Senior’s (Grandfather to Elizabeth) baby sister who passed away before Martha’s birth.

Unknown Piece of Information #7:

Virgil’s mother moved after receiving the letter saying that her one and only son, Virgil, died in combat and ended up getting remarried. But she always carried with her a picture of Virgil and her first husband in a locket around her neck. She always loved him even though she hated his choice to join the military.

Unknown Piece of Information #8:

Characters like Andrel and Garrison do not have a past to younger vampires because the truths about their lives are in secret. Not many know about the start of vampires and ever fewer survived it. What we see now is only a shell of what was left of the true Vampyre. To be revealed later.

Unknown Piece of Information #9:

Helena Poe was Born in 1825. Reborn 1856

Her father died in a stabbing and her mother married again, but with four new siblings, Helena became invisible and she was forgotten to do with life what she wanted and placed on the streets. So she erased her former life and removed herself of her name. She replaced it with Helen Poe after Lugen-Poe and became a part of the group Les Nabis (post-impressionist avant-garde artists) in France.

She began working under Garrison after William had saved her from hoodlums in the slums on London.

Unknown Piece of Information #10:

Chris Wells, Sarah and Samantha’s brother from A Steady Pulse, hunted and tracked down William. William was impressed with Chris’s thirst for revenge that he used Chris for his own game of revenge even though William was responsible for what happened to Samantha. It was this yearning for the power to kill those responsible that drove Chris to speed up the process and turned him into a monster.

A few Questions for the Pulse Trilogy

These are a few questions that I have put together for you about The Pulse Trilogy.

Why the Pulse Trilogy and what was the experience like?

I wanted my own vampire romance, as cheesy as that may sound. I have read many books and when I was younger I had all these ideas on what I wanted to do. So why not create my own. To have an outcome of my own design, though at times it felt as if the characters knew more than me, and most importantly a cast of characters that I had created. I could make them fall in love, or destroy each other with a few simple lines. It was a fun experience and something that I will always remember. Even as I branch out and continue writing I am very happy with my first series.

This whole adventure has been a great learning experience and I have met so many people along the way that have helped me understand just what goes into being an indie author. I am both blessed and honored at everyone I have met. The writers, the reviewers, and the bloggers have all showed me a completely different side to being a writer that I didn’t see when I first dove into this career path last year.

Three things I have learned so far in this journey is:

1.) Don’t be afraid to call on others for help. (Such as editing, cover design, and research)

2.) You’re book wont advertise itself. (Blog, tweet, joins groups, and pass it along to family and friends)

3.) Accept rejection and understand that you can’t please everyone.

Who was your favorite character?

I love my main characters, Elizabeth and Virgil, but if I had to pick a favorite girl I think it would be Bethany, Elizabeth’s friend. Now, my favorite guy would have to be Virgil Hart. I could never pick another guy above him. He’s loyal, courageous, has a big heart, and though he carries a lot of baggage he’s just the right amount of emotion to make anyone love him.

Did you have a song you loved to listen to when writing?

Gosh, I loved listening to Linkin Park, Worn by Tenth Avenue, Adele, Celtic women, Nox arcana, and the epic music to the mini-series the Bible. There were others but these are on a folder I have that I just play over and over until my ears are bleeding.

Who is your favorite couple?

I love Elizabeth and Virgil most of all, but there are two other relationships I have thought about that I completely love as well, and that would be Bethany and Lucas, which you meet in the third book, but they aren’t a couple yet. The second is William and Cassandra. I know we don’t really hear another about them except tragedy, but I love how their story plays out in my head and I have already begun to work on a story to explain exactly what I mean. J

What was your favorite scene to write?

In A Steady Pulse I loved writing the scene with the old brothers (name?). They are fun and loveable and their conversation was priceless. In Barley Beating I loved writing the scene where Bethany and Virgil were face to face in, what appears to be, Beth’s final moments. In Flat Line I would have to say that the death of ____ was my favorite scene…. Oh come on, like I was really going to tell you who died. J

After finishing the book how do you feel now?

I feel so excited because I can now shift some of my attention to many other projects I have in the works.

Will there be more to the series later? Or perhaps a different set of books with a different character in the same world?

I would love to come back to my Pulse World, but not with the same leading characters. Perhaps a standalone finally revealing Garrison’s past, what the hunters are truly trying to prevent from happening, where did the vampires come from, and what happens ten years from when the Pulse series takes place? I’m also thinking a prequel to The Pulse Series exploring what happened between William and his family. These are all things I have running through my head on how I could carry on, but for now I am just going to focus on perfecting the three books I have in the Trilogy.

What’s the next project?

I have many projects in the works that I look forward to sharing with you:

A horror story for October, a new series I want to start in November, a new paranormal romance book called Saving Grace, and I’m working on my middle grade book.

My last project is a fun one. I can finally start creating the world of Middle-Lands and begin plotting out exactly where I would love to take the series. Yes, series. I’m not going to limit this one to just one book or even three this time because the possibilities are limitless! And I’m so excited to get started that I might just skip the other three projects to do this one. haha

A steady Pulse, book one of the Pulse Trilogy

"I must be crazy." Virgil laughed. he wanted to run into her ever since the car ride, but now he was face to face with her he felt unable to do anything more than make her upset. How was he to save her if she wasn't going to listen to him?

"You...you are..." She whispered weakly trying to gather the courage to say what she prayed wasn't true.

"Not going to harm you. Not going to drink your blood. I am not a monster. I am a vampire." He assured her with the best smile he could muster under the circumstances.

"Yeah...." she let out a shaky breath. He understood why her eyes were still searching him. She was looking for anything to prove or disprove what he was saying. So Virgil leaned his head back and lowered his jaw. He extended his fangs out and pushed hard to darken his eyes. What more proof could he give her?

Elizabeth would have fallen to the floor if she hadn't already been sitting, but she stayed facing Virgil, taking one deep breath after the other. he pulled back his fangs and lowered his head. His eyes returned to normal and the space between them grew even more tense.

"I saw a pair like that once," she released a shaky laugh. "It was at a gothic store in the mall...."

"These are-"

"Don't say real!" She snapped. "They can't be!"

The Pulse Trilogy

The Pulse Trilogy is my first Paranormal Romance series. It’s been my baby since I was in high school. When most students finished their work early and had to read books, I was pulling out a notebook to write down the endless amounts of ideas flowing through my mind.

By the time I graduated I had already written the first book of the Pulse Trilogy, though it was called, Pulse, at the time. Little was I aware then, that I would rewrite the entire story more than two times in the next couple of years and then go about self-publishing myself.

Looking back, I wish I had done my homework better, prepared better, and perhaps gotten the manuscript edited and cover done before I posted it. But with all the bumps in the road, a couple of negative comments, and a moment when I felt at my lowest I managed to pull myself together with the help of my loving husband and friends. I pulled my book offline after several months of disappointments giving it the attention it so desperately needed and sent it back out into the world months later.

Since the re release  A Steady Pulse has been doing great! I have gained a better sense of what to do and even have a few followers asking about the release about the third installment in the Pulse Trilogy, which is announced below the book cover towards the bottom of this blog post.

Book 1: A Steady Pulse

Book 3: Flat Line

After eight months from when Elizabeth Parks was first introduced into a world of vampires she thought things couldn't get more complicated. Her wedding to Virgil Hart is only a week away, her store is busier than ever, and to top it all off she can't seem to ignore a feeling as though she's being watched.

Keeping Virgil in the dark about her feelings may not have been the smartest of ideas a vampire mistakes her for someone else and kidnaps her right under their noses to a vampire who is as shocked to see her as she is to see him.

Again, Virgil finds himself racing the clock to get Elizabeth back, but this time will it be impossible to save her ? Will this be Virgil's last fight as he faces off with a house full of vampires? Or will he be able to reach her and once and for all settle things with his past?

A Steady Pulse from Smashwords to Amazon

My first Ebook, A STEADY PULSE, made its debut on Smashwords on December 5, 2011. I was beyond the simple description for the word nervous when I pushed the button to publish it online that I could have had a heart attack. Any person watching me as I sat quietly in the library would have thought I was making a life and death decision.

Well, I was.

I was facing my demons of perfection demanding me to wait. They were saying I wasn’t good enough and that I could do better. They also filled my head with doubts about people reviewing my work and eating me alive! How would I survive?

But I did it. I pushed on and managed to publish my works in Smashwords. It must have taken a week before it fully set in and though I updated it a couple of times for mistakes that were simple I found courage. With each update and sell I became stronger.

I found out I wasn’t alone and that I was being supported by people just like me! And with this new found discovery I knew I needed to go farther than Smashwords. I started a BLOG, I joined Twitter, and I even gained friends from FACEBOOK. I started to form a small group of authors to follow (Ia Uaro, Cheryl, for example) and slowly it expanded into being a part of a full community (tweets4authors).

Then I found Ashley Wied and fell head over heels in love with her cover art and took yet another big step for me. Something I probably should have done in the beginning, but I’m still learning. After several days and many lovely conversations back and forth she made the process easy and painless. Next thing I knew I had this one of a kind cover that I couldn’t be more than happy about. She really did take the hundreds of things I gave her and narrowed it into a great piece. I definitely plan to go back to her for my next works. You can learn more about her by clicking on her name.

Now with a new cover and with a whole cast of supporters I published my work on Amazon as of September 11th and I haven’t looked back.

I look forward to what everyone has to say about my book and I can’t wait to finish my next paranormal romance. I am also working on several over projects, one is a Middle Grade fiction which a sample of the first chapter can be read here: The Adventures of Kyle and Jordan Chapter 1 Part 1.

A Steady Pulse

A Steady Pulse is the first story of my Pulse Series.

Virgil just wants to continue living his somewhat normal life as a vampire, but when Elizabeth Parks drives up to Lake Pineywoods for a vacation away from her life, things become complicated.

Excerpt 

“What--” Virgil’s voice cut short by a dim female whisper.

Help…

He turned quickly to his right expecting to see someone. He looked around and even into Garrison’s room for a moment. He heard her. Clear as day. Her voice tired and scared, a plea.

“Virgil?” Garrison’s voice pulled him from his momentary insanity as he continued to glance around knowing that what he heard was impossible.

“I thought I heard someone for a moment.” He shook his head. It had been a hard pass few hours. Her voice was now haunting him. Even when he had left her house he could still see her memories. He could see pieces of her past and mixture of feelings all bottled up within.

“Virgil?” Helena entered the hall. “You okay?” Helena had been ease dropping on their conversation coming to check on Virgil out of concern. He laughed lightly at her worry and raised his hand to wave her worry away, but as his hand lifted up something unexpected occurred.

Virgil’s body slowed. Time almost stood still as he watched Helena slowly stepping towards him. Pulling his eyes away from her, he gazed upon Garrison rising slowly to his feet. Virgil’s senses stretched out. It was like Garrison was trying to talk but this wasn’t Garrison’s doing. His blood boiled as both his head and chest felt a great wave of pressure and pain. His felt body as though it was being crushed for a brief second.

Someone help! Please! She screamed as though she was just down the hall.

“Elizabeth!” Virgil gasped back to reality grabbing the doorframe for balance as Garrison reached out to him. Sweat beaded down his forehead. The room swayed for a moment.

“Are you okay?” Helena rushed to him, but Virgil turned with such speed tearing from Garrison’s light touch and down the hall past Helena to the front door.

He could feel it. Something was wrong. He didn’t know what had happened and how, but he wasn’t going to ignore something as loud as that.

“Hold on, I’m coming!”

What I Write.

I spend most my time writing Fantasy fiction stories targeting young adults mixing in the occasional paranormal flare, or leaving it with the wonderful world of vampires and wolves. This can be seen in my Pulse series that I am still currently working on. 

The first book is called A Steady Pulse, which is about a vampire named Virgil who just wants to continue to live his somewhat normal life, but when 23-year-old Elizabeth Parks drives up to lake Syke for a vacation away from her own life, things get complicated.

I have also dedicated a good portion of my time to mapping out my own world and forming history to places such as Edenburrow and Sandcraft in my latest work called, Tale of a Script.

Introduction to Tale of a Script:

Sisters, Elaina and Madeline Script, ran away from their home on Trinity Islands three years ago. Since then they have taken on the occasional bounty job, saved a couple of lives, and tried to keep an eye on one another, until yesterday, when Madeline was found dead and displayed in the center of town.

At her wits end, Elaina is forced to take on street thuds, royal guards, and even storm the castle, all in the name of finding her sister's killer. But fear not, she isn't alone in her struggles. she meets several characters along the way, a mysterious fighter, and old friend, a master craftsman, and many more.
