Book Review: Louise by Diana Nixon

LOUISE EBOOK-2

~~Synopsis~~

It doesn’t hurt to dream, unless you know your dreams will never come true.
Since childhood, Louise Woods has wanted to become a dancer. The day she arrives at Le Papillon – a private cabaret club where men come to enjoy the beauty of women dancing, her life completely changes. Louise lives in the club and the rules of living and working there cannot be ignored or broken. Either you do your best to please the clients, or you are out. No flirting, no secret affairs, just dancing.
During her first public show, Louise meets a stranger who pays for the privilege to have her privately dance for him. He won't let her see his face, he won't even introduce himself, but he will make an offer that she won’t be able to refuse. He won’t make any hollow promises, but he will make her believe she is special…
“I hate following the rules,” he’ll say, “but I do love breaking them.”
Will she dare to risk losing everything she has, just to make the darkest of the stranger’s fantasies come true? Once the decision is made, there will be no way back…

~~REVIEW~~

5 Stars!!

Louise is a woman who is both kind and strong; locked away in a world of little freedom. As a child she grew up in an orphanage under the role of an evil woman. A place where your best friend could be your enemy. Where your very survival depended on the amount of money you collect off of the streets. It was survival of the fittest. How can this young girl survive in a world such as this? But after an encounter with a kind man with beautiful eyes she makes a promise that she intends to keep. No one will harm her.

As she turns eighteen freedom is at her fingertips. The last thing to do is to go to a cabaret club called, Le Papillon to see about a job to be a dancer, but it isn’t exactly what she had in mind and when she protests the owner, Drew, makes it very clear that he has bought her and she will work under him until her debt is paid off. The horror is when he proves that she signed the document herself keeping her suck there. A trick well played by the orphanage and him. Again she has no freedom, but the illusion of. At least she loved to dance.

The atmosphere of the story is beautiful. The scenes are elegant with layouts that make me want to visit these places. I want to be an exclusive member to this club. All the characters you come across, no matter how small you grow to love and hate. And quickly you find that everyone has a story that Louise can’t help but bring to the surface. She is a woman wise beyond her years in a world that she has only known as a cage.

But there is hope. As a mysterious masked man steps into her life. What woman wouldn't fall under his spell? And that begs an even better question, why did he want Louise? And is there more to Le Papillon then meets the eye?

Diana Nixon has written a powerful story filled to the brim with mystery, intrigue, and romance, with a character and a plot that both captivates and steals your heart. I don’t think I had a moment where I put the book down. I was just that drawn into it. And the ending left me both satisfied and breathless, like I had just experience my first kiss and then I was saying ‘goodbye’.

The only way you could ever upset me, Diana, is if you tell me there isn’t a book two. Haha But knowing you there will be one soon enough. And I look forward to reading it.

~~About the Author~~

10520634_548001248666392_6622454048362840415_oDiana Nixon, an International Bestselling Author of contemporary and paranormal romances, is a woman of contradictions. She was born in Minsk, Belarus, where she currently lives and works on her books. She has a Master of Law degree and speaks several foreign languages, including English, Polish and Spanish.
Diana’s writing career is like a roller coaster ride. It started with a fantasy novel named Love Lines, that was originally written in Russian and only later, it was translated into English. Diana had always wanted her story to be well-known all over the world, that’s why she started working with the US publishers, but it was not easy living in Belarus. The book needed to be translated, edited and promoted. After almost a year of hard work, Diana had finally received the first copy of Love Lines. Since then, she has published 12 more books, both of contemporary and fantasy genres. Today, she’s one of Nevermore Press’ authors, but she has never forgotten about self-publishing, she still thinks that becoming an Indie author is the best way to make your writing dreams come true.

Book Review: No Strings Attached

(18 &

(18 & Above)
Blurb:

Games can be different. Some are innocent, others are dangerous. But there are also those that you will never learn how to play.
Oliver Altier is a guy whose every day is a game, a game of passion. His only rule is: no strings attached, no guilt involved. Oliver thinks he knows everything about how to please women. Until one day, he meets Jillian Murano, a woman who is so much like him when it comes to relationships: she hates obligations, but she loves men, margaritas and fun.
What will be different this time?
Will passion and lust be enough to turn their games into something real?
If they thought it would be nothing but another play, they should have thought twice before getting into something that will change them both, once and for all…

---Review---
5 out of 5
Oliver Altier is a man living in the moment without attachments and a woman at his beck and call kind of guy. He’s the kind that every father would tell his baby girl to run away from and the kind where he doesn’t like not getting what he wants. He’s complicated and a bit dirty. I love it!
Jillian Murano is a workaholic, feisty, sharp tongued, take no crap kind of gal. She’s the kind that also knows what she wants in life and works her butt off to get it. She isn’t in the market for a relationship to make her life even more complicated, especially since her best friend is marrying her boss. That already makes her life hard.
When Jillian’s sister and a dog ruin her apartment Jillian turns to her best friend for help and moves into her old apartment, which she is grateful. That is, until she realizes she’s not the only one staying there. She comes face to face with her boss’s brother, Oliver and darn! He’s wearing too much clothes. . .
Can these two really share the apartment without anything between them?  Or will the house to go up in flames around them? The only question I’m wondering is will it be the flames of passion or hate?
Diana Nixon knows how to write a story that makes you wet your lips, reach for a drink, and laugh out loud. She also knows how to write love. And that is what this story is. It’s a love story. In the end that’s what it boils down to. It’s about Oliver becoming a man and discovering what he truly wants in life (SPOILER! It’s Jillian) and about Jillian finally allowing someone to get past her hard exterior and into her heart (SPOILER! It’s Oliver!).
The conversations are fun and lively, the characters are witty and sexy. They are the ‘tie them to the bed’ kind of characters. Who doesn’t like a little role play? There really isn’t a duel moment with this cast.
There is enough banter between characters to keep the story moving at a fast pace. Trust me, you’re going to eat this book up. I know I did. In one afternoon (to the morning) I sat back and read this book refusing to put it down because I had to know what was happening! At one point Oliver was so sweet and the next he’s completely an ass! I had to know why.
But No Strings Attached isn’t all fun and games. The characters are flawed, they end up misunderstanding each other, and they make huge mistakes (I’m glaring at Oliver.). Expect to be overwhelmed, your heart to be taken, a curse here or there, and then smiling. But above all else, expect to fall in love with this book.

Thank you Diana for another great read.

-Brenda Franklin

Before No Strings Attached there was Checkmate where we first meet Oliver, but more importantly you get to enjoy Dominick and Scarlett’s relationship and see the turn of events that lead them to where they are in this book. I’m trying not to give it away, but I’m doing a horrible job. J What I’m trying to say is, if you liked this book you will also love the first book, Checkmate.

REVIEW:
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars!!

I’ll start off by saying that this is a book series I would recommend reading from the first book, Love Lines. I think you would be a little lost just stepping into the world of Love Lines without a little background, but none the less Diana has done a great job trying to fill you in.
This book is done the POV of my favorite characters!! The wonderful couple Eileen and Christian, and my next two loves, Evan and Amanda. Powerful bonds connect all of these characters.

In the beginning Diana picks up right where we left off, Evan is dying! (SPOILER!) He’s not so much dying as he is evolving. Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes Evan is becoming more powerful and unfortunately Eileen is enduring this transformation with him. Talk about intense. They are pretty much cut off from the outside world and having to endure 12 days of pain, while Eileen catches glimpse of Evan’s past. What could all these dream mean and when he wakes up what powers will he have? Don’t worry though because he’s the same charming, smart ass that we have all come to love so much and those new found powers will come in handy.
During this book I think characters are really developing. I always love Eileen’s strength and courage and love for her friends and now Amanda is working her way up the ladder and into my heart more. But what I didn’t see coming was the end. Talk about pulling my heart strings. It was worth it. It’s always worth it.
Bonds will grow, pasts and connections are made, and a lot is revealed in this installment of the Love Lines Series. It’s a book you don’t want to miss and it makes me feel like I’m reading one of the Harry Potter books, just one isn’t enough. I need them all!
Now, start writing Diana! :)

One of my favorite scenes:
Evan: “why didn’t you come to me?”
(character): “what would I say? Touch me? Kiss me? Make love to me?”
“Evan: “Yeah, why not?”

Oh man, this made me laugh and at the same time my heart was beating fast. God, how I wanted them to connect again with passion… okay, that’s enough of that scene. You will just have to read the book to find out what’s going on. J
Okay… one more scene:

“In your dreams!” I snapped, turning to the door.
“You’re seen my dreams, Baby. I don’t talk much there.”

Haha they crack me up!!

Book Review: If I Stay

6990472
--------------Book Review----------

5/5

Living is hard. Sometimes taking that next breath after making a decision feels like you are going to explode, but you will undoubtedly make another hard choice within the next week, or month. I guess it also depends on your definition of a hard choice. Some people would say picking out a change of clothes would be hard or which answer sounds like the right one for a test. Others, it could be a relationship, a new house, the name of your first child, heck, the second or the third. Any of these can be hard. But I think the hardest is living. To wake up each day anew and to realize you will have to make all these choices again and again and again. Might drive some people mad and others it already has.

In this book, If I Stay, Gayle focuses on the good and the bad. She has a character, which I loved, who is quiet, knowledgeable, talented, and a lot of fun rolled up into one she is experiencing the worst possible thing the choice of life or death. To hang on and fight it or to slip away. How can anyone be made to choose this, let alone a 17 year old girl?

We join Mia over the course of a couple of days which gives us a glimpse into her life and shows us the people she loves and why. We get to experience the love of her family, her boyfriend, her best friend, and everyone in her life as she hangs on by a thread. But is it enough? She has lost her parents and the fate of her brother is uncertain. Can she stay without them? Can she leave Adam, her boyfriend behind?

Follow along and find out what Mia decides in this heart wrenching and emotional tale.
The characters are so dynamic. From Mia’s musically inclined father who played the drums for a local band, to her badass mother who gave birth to Melvins, and to Mia’s boyfriend, Adam who plays in the band Shooting Star. All of Gayle’s characters are different, and filled with life. A grandmother who sees her relatives as animals, a best friend who started out as an enemy, and plenty of avid characters who come in and out of the story. There wasn’t one person I didn’t fall in love with, nor think they weren’t real. Each person I could put a face to within my own life. That’s the kind of story that gets you attached, when you begin to see the faces of your family on theirs and you see their life play out before you.

A great trick to this book is getting you introduced to Mia’s family and then the accident happens. (SPOILER!!! Sorry.) Next thing we know Mia is standing around the crime scene looking for Teddy when she sees herself and realizes what is going on. Now from here we play the story both forward and backwards. As the next forty eight hours unfold throughout the books we share pieces of her past giving you insight into Mia and see that the decision she is making is not easy.

There will be heartbreak, a smiles, moments of laughing, and others where you are searching for the tissue box desperately so you can see and continue reading. But you will love and cherish it. Maybe not everyone because there are slow parts, but I know I loved it and I will definitely continue to recommend anyone to read this.

Book Review: Checkmate by Diana Nixon

22034438Title: Checkmate
Author: Diana Nixon
Rating: 5/5
(18 and Above)

Synopsis:

Smart, beautiful and ambitious, Scarlett Wilson never thought that trouble could be that irresistible. After she wakes up in a handsome stranger’s bed, with nothing but the vague memories of the night they spent together, her life changes tremendously. What she thought was the biggest mistake ever, turns out to be the only thing her body and mind would never let her forget.

Who would have thought that the only witness to Scarlett’s night adventures would become the new head of her father’s company that she had been dreaming to head for years? The owner of the most gorgeous face and the most impossible temper ever, Dominick Altier will make the wildest of her fantasies come true…

Is falling in love with the devil worth giving up dreams and betraying principles?

Will setting the rules help retain dignity?
Or will losing a match become the only way to win the game?

----------REVIEW----------

Nothing gets the blood pumping more than a devilishly handsome man speaking French and a couple of drinks. J Let the games begin!

Scarlett Wilson wasn’t planning any of it when she walked into The Black Rose (club) with her best friend. Needless to say she ended up alone until Mr. sleek, charming, and dangerous stepped up to the table. He couldn’t resist this vivacious woman and after a few drinks Scarlett wakes up in bed with the man and not the best memory of the night before. Talk about a nightmare!
She leaves and tries to return to her normal life of work until she meets the new man working for her dad’s company, Dominick Altier. Oh, she knows this man; he’s the same one from the night before. Now, with the world crashing down around her, Scarlett has to play Dominick’s mental and physical game.

These two were opposites and so similar with their determination and how hard they worked. The tension at times was dipping off the pages and then Diana tosses in these fun side characters and situations that are so humorous. Again I find myself naming one of her characters someone in my life. It would have to be Dominick’s brother, Oliver. Yep, I’ve got a BFF with his personality and I think that’s what draws people to Diana’s writing. To turn and look at the people in your life and see them reflected in Diana’s writing means the lady knows her stuff and how to bring that real world connection into her writing. Her characters make you smile, laugh, and get frustrated. They make you lust, crave, and desire in ways only a good book or a great lover can do. :) Man, I love a good romance.

Diana has put together another great plot building a relationship between two characters that I thought would become volatile, but in a way it worked. The characters grew to love one another with such intensity. Haha I think I probably would have burned Dominick’s office with him in it after he threatened her with blackmail. Yeah, you heard me. He tried to black mail our leading lady! Team Scarlett supporter here. But by the end I was so glad she didn’t. He really was made to be her equal.

I am never disappointed when reading your books Diana and I continue to wish you the best of luck in all your future works. Keep bringing the same passion and love to everything you create.

Book Review: Warm Bodies

9475392Title: Warm Bodies
Author: Isaac Marion
Rating: 5 out of 5
About
R is a young man with an existential crisis--he is a zombie. He shuffles through an America destroyed by war, social collapse, and the mindless hunger of his undead comrades, but he craves something more than blood and brains. He can speak just a few grunted syllables, but his inner life is deep, full of wonder and longing. He has no memories, no identity, and no pulse. Just dreams.

After experiencing a teenage boy's memories while consuming his brain, R makes an unexpected choice that begins a tense, awkward, and strangely sweet relationship with the victim's human girlfriend. Julie is a burst of vibrant color in the otherwise dreary and gray landscape that R lives in. His decision to protect her will transform not only R, but his fellow Dead, and perhaps their whole lifeless world...

Scary, funny, and surprisingly poignant, Warm Bodies is about being alive, being dead and the blurry line in between.

-----------------REVIEW------------------

I hate zombie movies and books and I get very bad nightmares when I think about them, but this story was nothing at all of what I expected. I was taken into a world I wouldn’t want to enter and forced to endure a life as a Zombie as R’s companion. I endured much with him. I slowly remembered how to do the most basic of things and take joy in them. To connect. To smile. To laugh. To love. To fight. And the most important one of all, to live.

Warm Bodies is a spectacular journey of a broken world regaining life. Staring two of the most unlikeliest of allies, a human and a zombie, who grow to be more and will change the world.
R isn’t your average Zombie. He eats people, sure, but he also looks at the world differently and wonders about things that used to be though his memory isn’t what it used to be and he can’t recall anything of his past or even what his name was. He lives his day to day life stumbling around and enjoying what little of humanity has survive, such as riding a conveyor belt or sitting in the front of a car. He understand the basics of gassing up a car, perhaps what buildings used to be, listening to music, or watching a movie…even though it’s usually not the best movie, but he’s a zombie. He doesn’t care about ratings on a movie or the amount of clothing for that matter. They are all just walking rotting meats that will one day rest and never awaken. Enjoy life how it is, because death really is the end of all things… but is there more?

After a hunt into the city R and a small group of zombies hunt down the hunters (humans) and feast like any normal event, but something is different about the brain R is consuming. He feels different he knows things that the sweetest part of the body, the brain, allows him to catch glimpse of as if he had become human and lived them himself and he loves it. Zombies’ love that euphoric feeling they get when eating the brain, but this one is strong, the strongest. R is left with a girl’s name in his mind and that very girl happens to be in front of him.

R can’t help the feelings surging through him and decides to save the girl’s life from his fellow zombies and takes her back to his place, a plane, where he can keep her safe.

Slowly Julie and R begin to bond and something changes. R is changing and he’s not the only one affected. What could this mean? And is it a good thing?

I’ve never fallen so much in love with a zombie before, but this is definitely one relationship I won’t be forgetting. I highly recommend this book.

Prologue
The hall of the emergency department was overcrowded. About five dozen people were taken to Lenox Hill Hospital after the explosion at one of the local cafes. The phones were ringing non-stop; reporters were everywhere, trying to take pictures and asking questions about the incident. It seemed as if the entire city was there, hoping to find out at least something about the tragedy that had happened an hour ago.
“What do we have here?” Dr. Robinson asked, running up to one of the gurneys.
“Caucasian, female, twenty-three years old,” one of the nurses said, holding the drop counter. “Head trauma, internal hemorrhaging; numerous shoulder and back injuries; at least two ribs are broken; has been unconscious for approximately thirty minutes.”
“Take her to surgery; now!” the doctor said.  “Make sure her blood pressure stays stable.”
Today was the kind of day when the world around you seemed to be going crazy. But there was no time for panic; the lives of so many people were at stake.
Dr. Robinson examined the injured woman on the gurney. This was his second shift in a row, but he didn't have time to think about taking a break.  He knew it wouldn’t be easy, but he hoped the woman's young age would help her live through the next couple of hours; it was important, considering the extent of her injuries.
Even with twenty years of experience under his belt, he was still nervous before every operation. It wasn’t that he doubted his ability to perform his job well; modern technology sometimes refused to cooperate with nature and fate. He witnessed death every day, but most of all, he hated it when young people died. After all, they had a whole eternity to live.
He took a deep breath, made the sign of the cross and entered the operating room.
“Ready?” he asked the nurses. They nodded wordlessly.
“Good.”
Dr. Robinson nodded to the anesthesiologist, who administered the dose of Sevoflurane that would keep the young woman unconscious for the surgery.  Then he put on the gloves and looked at the girl on the operating table. “It’s going to be okay, doll. You want to live, don’t you?”

(Above 18)
Love Undone is a book about second chances. You’re leading lady, Kassie, has memory loss after an explosion which has left many people injured. She comes to in a hospital with a deliciously good looking man at her bedside who knows all about her, too bad she has completely forgotten him. Slowly pieces of her memories come back revealing heart breaking details of things no one really wants to relive: the death of her brother, her relationship that fell apart, and a truth that forced her to try and leave everything behind days before her memory was taken. What happened to make her want to leave and what is Daniel, a man who could possibly be the love of her life, holding back from her? And, when everything is laid out before them will they be able to overcome it or will the pain be too much?

Daniel is everything any girl could dream in a bad boy turned honest man with more secrets than a senator I swear! And it was fate that seemed to give him the second chance to step back in Kassie’s life. (Diana Nixon being Fate of course.) Kassie is truly a woman rediscovering her life and her connections with the people in it, but don’t think she’s some weak little woman. It takes a heck of a lady to run a business, put up with Daniel (and match his appetite), and make the decisions she has had to make through her life. For better or for worse.

Life isn’t all fun and games and Diana doesn’t spare us any pain, nor twists in this breathtaking work. She has a way of writing that leaves the heart aching and the body wanting more. Once you get a taste for her characters you’ll be hooked.

Love Undone is emotional and uplifting all in one. It will have you smiling in one chapter and struggling to breath in the next. I know it sounds terrifying, but it’s worth it. To watch two people who belong together, fight, struggle, and love one another against all odds is wonderful. This is the kind of book you read again and again. It will stay with you, as it has stayed with me. And I can only hope that it inspires and moves all who have chosen to enjoy it. It you haven’t read it I suggest you pick up your copy today. You won’t be disappointed.

Kassie is truly a woman rediscovering her life and her connections with the people in it, but don’t think she’s some weak little woman.

I led him into the foyer and shut the door behind him. He followed me to the dining room and when I sat, he took the seat beside me. He caught my eyes and raised his brows expectantly.

“Niamh asked me to go to Tír na n’Óg with her and Liam.”

“What, you mean go right now?” Ethan asked.

I nodded. “She doesn’t want to wait until Aoife makes a move. In a way I agree with her.”

“Did you tell me you needed to talk so you could just tell me you were leaving?”

I glanced up at him. “Yes, I hoped you’d understand.”

“No Allison. I don’t understand,” he said, jumping up so fast the chair nearly fell over.

I hesitated. “Niamh came by after you left last night. I know there’s a lot going on here, but I’ve thought about it all night. The sooner we take care of the threat Aoife poses on all of us, the better.”

Ethan stared at me, his face hard. “I understand that part. But I told you whatever happens, I’m coming with you.”

“What?” I said, shaking my head. “You can’t.”

“Like hell I can’t.” He crossed his arms, eyes narrowed. “You’re not leaving me behind this time.”

The Forgotten One - Book CoverBook One: The Forgotten Ones

Allison O’Malley’s goal is to live a happy life give her mom as much support as she can give her. She doesn’t have time for romance and over complications with a mother who is suffering from schizophrenia and has been taken care of by her grandparents.

But what Allison wants may be up for discussion when her long lost father appears bringing with him the possibility of her mother getting better, but there’s a catch. There’s always a catch. With the return of her father comes hard to believe stories that involve the Tuatha de Danaan, which is hard to swallow until you meet the amazing cast of characters and the abilities they have. Yep, I’m a believer officially after someone begins to read my thoughts and use glamour spells. Sold.

The first 20 % was a bit slower than I would have liked, but it was character building none the less. Just stay with it! Very quickly I fell for Ethan, I loved (Niamh), I disagreed with Allison about sending Liam away at first, and couldn’t get enough out of the Tir na n’Og and the overall plot line.
This was certainly different from my average reads and well worth it. And the great thing is there’s a pronunciation key at the end of the book! Names like Aoife (Ay-fuh. evil witch of a woman!), Eithne (En-ya. Sweet and almost human like), and Aodhan (Ay-den. gotta love him.). I would have never figured it out without them. Well, some of them maybe, but for the most part no. So thank you so much for the help Laura. :)

Overall, this was a wonderful and magically filled book that I’m glad I ended up reading. If you haven’t picked up your copy, what’s stopping you?

Stone of Destiny - Book CoverBook Two: Stone Of Destiny
Allison O’Malley’s life changed when her father, a man she had seen all her life, suddenly showed up at her doorstep bringing with him the world of Tuatha de Danaan (Faries) and the answer as to why her mother is suffering from schizophrenia. Teaming up with magical people Allison is in the race against the clock to unravel  Aoife’s plot before anyone else is hurt.

In this book it picks up right where we left off in the second, so if you haven’t read it STOP RIGHT NOW!! You need to go back and enjoy the first one to truly understand to the fullest what is going on.

Ethan, a guy who Allison deeply cares for, is acting funny and it may be a person closer to home who is the culprit. And what do you mean Allison has a half-sister?! Who can be trusted as new characters step into Allison’s world forcing Liam and the gang to act faster, but is it a trap and how the heck are they going to survive this?

Yep, I was biting my nails to figure out what was going on. I stayed rooted in my chair until I no longer had feeling in my bum for this book and let me tell you it was worth it! Every agonizing, story building, fun, and plot developing second was well worth the wait.

The world that Laura Howard has created is fun, captivating, and darn it all, makes me want to join the Tuatha de Danaan. With characters that will leave you irritated, awed, and loved I can’t possibly imagine what she will do next to them and to us, the readers. But one thing is for certain, I’ll be in line for book three in this series to find out!
