Book Review: The Weaver Sage book one: Weaver

12721855Title: The Weaver Sage book one: Weaver
By: John Ambrowitz
Rating: 5 out of 5

(First off: The Cover is beautiful.)
Quotes I love:
“Stop trying to protect me. It’s insulting, not endearing.” I love this line said by Moira.
“We’re partners, nor friends.” This line is said from Moira to James and then again it is used from Alex to Moira when she is trying to make a point and I just love the reuse of it.
“Don’t ever call me a liability again,” she (Alex) hissed at him. “I don’t have to,” he (secret) grinned widely. “You’re not anymore.” <- this proves she’s getting stronger. You can’t be fifteen and weak in this world.

-----Blurb:-----

Fifteen-year old Alex Cronlord just met the boy of her dreams. Literally. Unfortunately, the dream involved him killing her. When she encounters him at her school the next morning, Alex understandably freaks out – and her mother’s bizarre behavior only makes it worse. What Alex doesn’t realize is that she can see the future – which will get her into a whole lot of trouble.

Across town, FBI Agent Moira McBain and her partner Andy Hall investigate a series of house burnings in Dallas, Texas. When a clue leads them to the Cronlords, Moira discovers a disturbing link between Alex’s family and her own – which opens an old wound Moira has spent years trying to ignore.

Something is rotten in Dallas, Texas – something involving a secret society, children with extraordinary powers, and human-looking creatures who might literally be out of this world ….
-----Review:-----

Demons (Xorda), secret Societies (Wells Society), and genetically altered DNA (children test subjects!), oh my! First off, I would recommend this to plenty of readers, young adult, paranormal, light Sci-Fi, and thriller lovers.

Fifteen year old Alex is a high school student with a loving dad, a cold, but over all good natured mother, and a best friend that everyone should have. After having a nightmare about being chased and coming face to face with someone that is going to hurt, if not kill her, she is a little rattled. But what makes this nightmare a reality is when she sees the supposed kid at school.

Slowly her nightmare becomes real and with it her normal life as a fifteen year old girl shatters and there’s no way in going back. Secrets about her mother and the people she worked for known as the Wells Society comes into the light and you find out that they are trying to create genetically altered kids, one of which was Alex. Her parent’s marriage ruined, Alex, her dad, and Moira, an F.B.I. agent, have to now stay a step ahead of her own mother to survive. But the Wells Society isn’t the only thing to worry about…

Dipping into John Abramowitz’s world of Weaver you can’t be for certain what’s around the corner. Trust no one.

What I loved the most about this book is that as the story started to unravel he really doesn’t explain who the bad guys are. I mean, you have horrible things, and house fires, and runaways which have murdered and done bad things, but who is truly the bad guy? Do you really know every person as well as you think you do? The moment I thought I had it all figured out I was hit with a twist that I both loved and felt sad about. The story does keep you guessing and it’s great!

This book one hit every mark and then some. There isn’t any real slow places, every scene is needed and some points are referenced back to, conversations are important so you better pay attention, and you’re characters are in depth, lovable, flawed, and kick ass. J I couldn’t have asked for a better crew of characters in this book. The book also had a good ending with plenty of mystery and questions to leave you wanting more, but an ending that satisfied you temporarily. Haha I would still recommend buying the next book, VOID.

Reads and Reading of the Week!

I have read:
In the past few days I have Read three books by Christine Feehan. I just can’t get enough of her writing. I’ve been stuck on her GhostWalker Series, which is filled with action, romance, and scientific technical stuff to quench my thirst for weeks to come. Haha I feel like I’m learning new things and understanding tactical warfare. It’s pretty fun. Do you ever feel that way? If so, what book or books gave you that feeling?

Ghostwalker Kane Cannon is pure male—animalistic, sexual, protective, instinctive—and his past missions have prepared him for anything. But his newest assignment, to rescue hostages in Mexico , plunges him into a hot zone he never anticipated: the hiding place of Rose Patterson—fugitive, ex-lover, a fellow Ghostwalker pregnant with his child.
Rose is in flight from the insidious experiments that still live in her dreams, and from the madman who’d do anything to take her child. Of all the Ghostwalkers enlisted to hunt her down, Kane is the only one she can trust. But as their passion reignites, the stakes are raised. Because Kane is now a wanted man as well. And together they’re about to face the most desperate challenge of all: staying together and staying alive.

Another great series is the Leopard Series by Christine Feehan. Come on, shape shifting hunks with an animal urge, count me in. ;) I can see the similarities between the series, but they are still very different and I love it. I can’t wait to go back to the book store and get more.

I am reading a book called Derek Agon Slays a Dragon by Samuel Tucker Young. Let me tell you, this book is nothing like I expected. The cover appears to be hand drawn and visual tells me this is a Middle Grade book, but as you start reading the detailed and beautifully descriptive book I really think it’s for an older audience (young Adult). Sam would be amused by me because I have little sticky notes pointing at my favorite lines in the book, and there are a lot.

BLURB:
Derek just found out that the natural disasters he's seen tearing up the world are not just random earthquakes and monsoons. They are the result of a dragon, hellbent on destroying the world as it lusts for the one thing it wants the most; the illuminating book that Derek just picked up in a parking lot off of a talking cat. Failing high school is the least of Derek's problems now, for the book has chosen him as its champion, destined to face the bloodthirsty dragon in a duel for the fate of the world. DEREK AGONS SLAYS A DRAGON is Young Adult Fantasy novel about the absurd journey of a high school junior who gets crossed and double crossed as he traverses modern day America in search of the beast. Accompanied by a furiously curious talking cat, Derek soon uncovers a hidden world deep within his own that is filled with books that glow with desire, an ancient order of talking animals clinging desperately to the past, and a mysterious girl who keeps the world turning. All of that, of course, plus the evil dragon Derek must slay to keep the world from ending.

12721855I am also reading the Weaver Sage book one, by John Abramowitz. And let me tell you john, yesterday I saw Lucian!! I mean, I was driving and suddenly there someone was in my perfect image of Lucian. Talk about getting chills. And I think every girl needs a Tyler. Haha

Atticus for the Undead and Haunted Moon Reviews

Atticus for the Undead (a legal fiction) by John Abramowitz

Don’t be thrown off by the word ‘legal’. Yes, it is a legal thriller, but no, it’s not hard to follow. The writer gives you all the information and more that you will need for following the book. And you really could easily push this into a few other categories. It’s full of humor, magic, and drama.

Atticus for the Dead starts off in the real world after, what is called, ‘the unveiling’ has happened and all manner of beings (vampires, zombies, and such) have stepped out into the light. Mankind is now at the point where they are in in conflict about political actions and rights towards the sudden appearance of the supernatural beings. Neighbors, family members, and friends can be one of them, one of the supernatural. Movements have started up, both against and for, supernatural beings. And when a supernatural (Arcane) is against the wall in matters of the legal kind, who will rise up to help?

And that’s where out man comes in! Hunter Gamble is just the man for the job! He’s a lawyer come to save the day and he’s bringing his A -game.

This book is a great balance of snappy dialogue mixed into a legal mesh of fun with great characters. I would have finished the book a lot faster if work hadn’t forced me away! Though I can see where some people would be put off by a book like this, I would say at least give the first three chapters a try. I give this book a four out of five.

Hunted Moon by K.B. Miller

Having not read the series before, I can say that this story alone is a nice start, a nice background or foundation for the series in my mind. It has a well put together beginning, middle, and end, and enough action to keep you interested. I know I was! I finished it in one read and was completely satisfied. It really was something worth picking up and enjoying.

This story leads with one of two sisters having come of age to join in her mother’s coven, but she is shaken by an encounter of the vampiric kind. With her sister mad at her, the weight of joining the coven, and the thought that she is going to have to KILL creatures (vampires), she isn’t sure she can handle it all. But when her sister’s life is in danger, Leeny must find the strength with the Goddess to be the Witch she is destined to become. I give it a five out of five.
