Suddenly Supernatural Series

2953103
I stumbled across my next set of reads at an old book store. Normally I'm looking for Lynsay Sands, Kenyon, or any kind of Paranormal Romance I can get my hands on, but not today. Today I found myself drifting towards this unusual book with a cute cover that I felt like I would read to my children, if I had any. So I flipped opened the page and started to read.

The very first line is, "The undead are ruining my life. I blame my mother."

Come on, who could turn this down. It's humorous, fun, and a good mix of things I could use right about now in my reading, as well as my writing. Why not?

So I bought the book, and the next two because they were right there, and now I'm about to dig in. :)

Suddenly Supernatural

All Kat wants is to be normal, or at least to look that way to students at her new school. But her mother is a medium, and not the kind that fits in between small and large; Kat's mom is the kind of medium who sees spirits and communicates with them. And, even worse, Kat has just discovered that she can see spirits too. In fact, she seems to be the only one capable of helping a spirit at her school cross over successfully. The question is can she do it without needing to switch schools herself?

Scaredy Cat!

Now that she’s acquired her Spirit sight, Kat discovers being followed around by a bunch of dead people can be pretty scary. So when Kat and her best friend, Jac, explore an abandoned old house that leads to a search for a missing boy, Kat’s not sure if she wants to help – or even if she can. And when evidence surfaces that spirits are following Kat, even into her own room, she has to face down her own fear. Can Kat keep the undead in control?

6007146Unhappy Medium

In this third Suddenly Supernatural book, spirit-seeing Kat has pretty much overcome her fear of communicating with ghosts. But when she and best friend Jac visit the Whispering Pines Mountain House and Kat is challenged to help a deceased medium make her way back into the light, things get a little darker.

From battling off dark spirits to fighting with Jac, Kat's week-long stay at the haunted mountain house is anything but relaxing. The question is what will be scarier: facing off with a misguided spirit or with her best friend, whose mother happens to be their chaperone?

THIS IS A STEAMY ONE

Friday couldn't come fast enough for Tyler. He boarded the plane from San Diego and in just under two hours touched down at Schulz International Airport. Kate ran to him as soon as he entered the small terminal. He dropped his bag and accepted her body slam willingly. His heart was overjoyed. He’d been heavy with worry she’d call him and postpone their get together, and he’d have to go out of country without being with her one more time. Her lips were urgent. She clung to him with fierce need, which was just about the biggest turn-on and something he hadn't dared to dream was possible. He felt her need match and melt into his as the steamy sparks flew and his hands smoothed over her satin skin. Her sweet softness and fresh scent given up to him so willingly, so utterly compliant made him wish somehow his deployment was over, that this was the homecoming he’d get when he could finally stay for more than just two nights. Two little nights! It’s all they had left. He wanted to see everything about where she grew up, meet her folks. Even take a good look at her asshole of a former fiancĂ© and let him know that he was the man he’d have to answer to if the guy had any designs on her. Of course, he was all in. And, thank the God of SEALs, it looked like she wanted him right there next to her as tight as they could get. “Baby it was way too long. We should just go runaway,” he kissed into her hair at the side of her head. “We could disappear. Wanna disappear?” That little giggle as she snuggled under his chin, as her arms came up his back, pulling him into her. Her fingers migrated to comb through the curls at the top of his spine, stroking and squeezing. Her hard pubic bone rode his shaft through his jeans. He pressed her there, hurting with need, and then just hurting. “If you weren’t the man I know you to be, Tyler, I’d take you up on it. God I wish I had a few million stashed away somewhere so we could just do that. But we have this.” She stood on tiptoes and placed her succulent lips across his. “And this is pretty damned good, baby.” “The best.” With one arm wrapped tight about her waist he practically carried her through the glass doors of the terminal to the parking lot beyond, slinging his bag over his left shoulder. Her feet barely touched the floor. She hung onto his shoulders, using her right thigh to gently balance against his hipbone as he walked. She wasn’t light, but he’d carry her all the way to San Francisco if she’d let him. And heck, he and his buddies had carried telephone poles up and down the goddamned beach in a full run in combat boots without hardly breaking a sweat. She’d started to get out her keys and he swiped them from her, giving her another kiss when she showed that fresh smile again. He stowed his bag in the hatch and they drove toward the freeway, heading north. He found the little town of Healdsburg to be charming, reminding him of some of the villages in the South of France, or New England where shops surrounded a lawn square complete with a gazebo and park benches. The square was a gathering place, and he noted the foot traffic was so thick, maneuvering the car to make a right turn as she had instructed, was tricky. They drove down a wide street with grand houses, most of them early California or large bungalow style. At a light green mansion, she ordered him to turn right and pointed around the corner to the back of the property, where he located a lemon yellow cottage. “Nice, Kate. Love it.” “Thank you.” She said bashfully. He could see she was thinking about what they’d be doing just as soon as he got them properly naked. He liked that she was shy, that her cheeks had that just-kissed blush on her fair peachy skin. She stole little glances at him which set his insides on fire. He’d never wanted a woman more.

Watch book trailer

Prologue
The hall of the emergency department was overcrowded. About five dozen people were taken to Lenox Hill Hospital after the explosion at one of the local cafes. The phones were ringing non-stop; reporters were everywhere, trying to take pictures and asking questions about the incident. It seemed as if the entire city was there, hoping to find out at least something about the tragedy that had happened an hour ago.
“What do we have here?” Dr. Robinson asked, running up to one of the gurneys.
“Caucasian, female, twenty-three years old,” one of the nurses said, holding the drop counter. “Head trauma, internal hemorrhaging; numerous shoulder and back injuries; at least two ribs are broken; has been unconscious for approximately thirty minutes.”
“Take her to surgery; now!” the doctor said.  “Make sure her blood pressure stays stable.”
Today was the kind of day when the world around you seemed to be going crazy. But there was no time for panic; the lives of so many people were at stake.
Dr. Robinson examined the injured woman on the gurney. This was his second shift in a row, but he didn't have time to think about taking a break.  He knew it wouldn’t be easy, but he hoped the woman's young age would help her live through the next couple of hours; it was important, considering the extent of her injuries.
Even with twenty years of experience under his belt, he was still nervous before every operation. It wasn’t that he doubted his ability to perform his job well; modern technology sometimes refused to cooperate with nature and fate. He witnessed death every day, but most of all, he hated it when young people died. After all, they had a whole eternity to live.
He took a deep breath, made the sign of the cross and entered the operating room.
“Ready?” he asked the nurses. They nodded wordlessly.
“Good.”
Dr. Robinson nodded to the anesthesiologist, who administered the dose of Sevoflurane that would keep the young woman unconscious for the surgery.  Then he put on the gloves and looked at the girl on the operating table. “It’s going to be okay, doll. You want to live, don’t you?”

Love Undone is a book about second chances. You’re leading lady, Kassie, has memory loss after an explosion which has left many people injured. She comes to in a hospital with a deliciously good looking man at her bedside who knows all about her, too bad she has completely forgotten him. Slowly pieces of her memories come back revealing heart breaking details of things no one really wants to relive: the death of her brother, her relationship that fell apart, and a truth that forced her to try and leave everything behind days before her memory was taken. What happened to make her want to leave and what is Daniel, a man who could possibly be the love of her life, holding back from her? And, when everything is laid out before them will they be able to overcome it or will the pain be too much?

Daniel is everything any girl could dream in a bad boy turned honest man with more secrets than a senator I swear! And it was fate that seemed to give him the second chance to step back in Kassie’s life. (Diana Nixon being Fate of course.) Kassie is truly a woman rediscovering her life and her connections with the people in it, but don’t think she’s some weak little woman. It takes a heck of a lady to run a business, put up with Daniel (and match his appetite), and make the decisions she has had to make through her life. For better or for worse.

Life isn’t all fun and games and Diana doesn’t spare us any pain, nor twists in this breathtaking work. She has a way of writing that leaves the heart aching and the body wanting more. Once you get a taste for her characters you’ll be hooked.

Love Undone is emotional and uplifting all in one. It will have you smiling in one chapter and struggling to breath in the next. I know it sounds terrifying, but it’s worth it. To watch two people who belong together, fight, struggle, and love one another against all odds is wonderful. This is the kind of book you read again and again. It will stay with you, as it has stayed with me. And I can only hope that it inspires and moves all who have chosen to enjoy it. It you haven’t read it I suggest you pick up your copy today. You won’t be disappointed.

EXCERPT

I halt in the doorway, taking in Syd's body. Unbelievably, she is back for round two. More unbelievably, I let the little crook into my house again. I still have no idea what I would tell Karl about a hotel charge, though. I will just have to keep an eye on her this time. “You're lying.” She turns to face me. “There's no downstairs. Is your mom that type who shows up every week to do the cooking and cleaning? “Can you stop asking stupid questions?” She blows air through her teeth. “You suck.” “Oh, be quiet.” I bat my hair out of my eyes. “Want some wine?” She drops her purse on the floor next to my bed. “That's more like it.” “Red or white?” “Didn't realize I was in the presence of Dionysus.” She perches on the edge of the mattress. “Red, please.” I consider skipping the drinks altogether and just taking her right there. So many beautiful things await under those clothes, ready to be explored all over again. Instead, I turn around and cross the house to the kitchen. A half bottle of Malbec waits in the fridge. I pour a glass, think better of it, and pour one for myself too. Then I return to the bedroom. She has her shoes off, sitting cross-legged on the bed, but hasn't removed anything else. Thankfully. That's part of the fun. I knock the door shut with my foot and hand her a glass. She sips her wine, looking oddly sophisticated for someone with Ozzy Osbourne eye makeup and enough silver in her ears to take down a werewolf. She peers up at me. “Is it a celebrity?” I stare at her, dumbly. “The person you protect, is it a celebrity?” Her eyes light up. “Oh! Is it Stevie Nicks?” “What? No.” “Linda Ronstadt?” “No.” She bounces a little on the mattress. “Is it Jenna Jameson?” “Good god, Syd.” I move forward and take her glass, then place it with mine on the nightstand. She says, “You didn't drink any of your wine. Did you—”

TOUR-EXCERPT

The moon shone bright over a crystal clear lake. Thousands of stars were reflected, like floating diamonds sparkling. The breeze blew gently through red cedar, pine, and maple. The clean mountain air reminded him of camping with his family when he was a boy. It had been so long since he had the liberty, and desire, to enjoy nature. The water called to Devlin. Carefully, without a sound, he pulled the clothes from his body and placed them on the stump beside him. With a slow breath, he walked into the gentle ripples, creating larger crests of his own. Warm water greeted him. He dove under, swimming deeper. A splash caught Devlin’s attention. He broke the surface to find nothing, and no one. Closing his eyes, he reached out with his senses. A lone werewolf was close. Panic flared through him, and he started for the shore, but a woman surfaced before him. A slow smile spread on her face when he flailed back, splashing her in his surprise. “Your heart’s pounding.” Amusement sparkled in her pale blue topaz eyes as she placed one small hand over his chest. Warmth washed through him offering a calm he couldn’t remember ever feeling. Yet, he was terrified the Dales were tracking him. A dream, nothing more than a dream. They can’t find me, he reminded himself. “You startled me,” Devlin replied. “Hmm.” Her foot brushed against his calf, sending a shiver through his entire body. She tapped her finger to her chin. “You remind me of someone, but I can’t figure out who.” Intrigued, and certainly heading toward aroused, he asked, “What makes you say that?” One corner of her shiny pink mouth lifted impishly. “Don’t know, but you do.” Her voice had taken on a husky purr which effectively made his blood pump faster. A dream, just a dream, he told himself. Then he did something bold, something he hadn’t done in so long he was sure he’d fail, even in a fantasy. “What’s a sweet little wolf like you doing out here all alone?” Her giggle was melodic as her already dazzling eyes lit up. “Looking for love in all the wrong places.” As if on cue, his resistance broke. Her tiny waist fit perfectly in his hands, her hips flared in a way that made him groan. Devlin propelled them closer to the shore, until his feet touched bottom. Before he could make his move, her legs locked around his hips and her fingers caressed up his shoulder and neck to delve into his hair. She grazed her lips over his. Afraid to take things too far, he slid his hands up her back, pressing her full breasts against his chest. Needing more of her taste, he deepened their kiss. Devlin felt more alive than he could remember. A dream, just a blasted dream, his brain chimed in. The knowledge didn’t stop him from sweeping his tongue into her mouth when she opened to him. Her body undulated in tune with his, and her heated core slid against his hardened length. The urge to bury himself in her was too much. Pulling back, he panted, “Your name? Need your name, Precious.” “Precious?” She licked her lips as she stared back at him with something like awe in her big blue eyes. He tipped his forehead to hers and breathed in her wild but seductive scent. “You’ve set me free of my old life. You’ve given me something to look forward to.” He didn’t know where the words came from, but he didn’t dare take them back. They felt right. “Jamie Abrams. You better come to me.” There was a command hidden in her sweet sassy voice, one he truly wanted to obey. “I’ll be waiting.” He nodded, rolling her name through his head like a fine wine over his tongue.

Editing!

The Middle-Lands is being Edited! Isn’t that among the scariest things? To have your baby, a project you have been working on for months, finally taken and analyzed! But at the same time it’s so exciting. It’s one more step closer to being finished and to be in the hands of all you wonderful people out there.

I have a confession! This is a little embarrassing… I was placing The Middle-Lands in YA Fantasy, but after looking through the market and talking with someone I discovered that because of the main character’s age and the direction of the story that it actually falls in the New Adult fiction (This I hadn’t heard of until a couple of days ago).

Difference:

Young Adult: Honestly this varies from blog site, to Wikipedia page, to personal opinions. The age rage seems to be around 12-18 or 16-25, the latter of the choices now changing into New Adult area if you ask me. :) Now this Genre focuses on challenges for youths and coming of age stories.

New Adult Fiction: Is a Genre falling between Young Adult and Adult that has a Protagonist ranging between the 18 to late twenties in age. This type of book would focus on leaving home, education, choices and discoveries that will impact them forever.

Isn’t that something? Ya learn something new every day. :) Now, with a better understanding of the genres (the above not limited to only what I wrote. There are so much more behind the genres but I choose only the basic to get my point across) I am able to say The Middle-Lands falls in NA Fiction.

After establishing the genre, sending it off to get edited, what’s next? Well, Writing Book two sounds like a plan! And so I have begun. Book Two of the Middle-Lands Series has been plotted and is sitting on my desk on several back to back pages of notebook paper.

But you know what the most important thing to do between writing projects is? Spend time with the family. After sending off my work I made a deal with my wonderful husband. I promised that if he let me plot out book two while it was still fresh and flowing that I would take the weekend off from writing to get some air and breathe. And that’s exactly what I intend to do.

So I will post back in a few days after some much needed rest and goofing off with my family. I hope your weekend is just as fun and exciting.
